FLY IN TO SELOUS GAME RESERVE & ZANZIBAR ISLAND


Day 1: Dar es Salaam – Selous Game Reserve

Pick up from your hotel in Dar Es Salaam and transfer to the domestic terminal to connect with light aircraft to the heart of Selous Game Reserve. On arrival, met greet and transfer to Rufiji River Camp, located on a bend in the Rufiji River. After lunch you will enjoy a superb boat safari. Dinner and overnight at Zarafa Tented Camp (L,D)
You will discover the Rufiji River by boat, encounter hippos and crocodiles in good numbers. Some 350 bird species have been recorded in the Selous Game Reserve. These are typical of miombo woodlands, and the bird life supported by Rufiji swamplands is of particular interest.

Day 2: 2 Activities of your choice in Selous Game Reserve

After breakfast, another day in the Selous Game Reserve. Choosing 2 safari activities: an incredible boat safari on the Rufiji River, game drive or walking safari with armed ranger. Lunch at the Camp. Dinner and overnight at Zarafa Tented Camp (B,L,D)

The Selous Game Reserve is the largest in Africa, covering 54,600 square kilometer. The reserve gets its name from the hunter and explorer Frederick Courtney Selous. He was killed here during World War 1. Selous is famous for elephants. Other species commonly seen are lions, wild dogs, buffaloes, bushbuck, impalas, elands, baboons, zebras and greater kudus. It was originally set aside as a hunting area where animals are abundant but more shy then the Northern Parks. Excursions by 4×4 vehicle will permit you to have good photographic opportunities and the chance to explore different sections of vast park.

Day 3: 2 activities of your choice in Selous Game Reserve

Your day will start with morning walking safari followed by breakfast. Lunch at the camp, afternoon game drive of the reserve. Dinner and overnight at Zarafa Tented Camp (B,L,D)

Walking safari will give you a particularly intimate feel for the African wilds. It starts in the morning with a guidance of an armed ranger, takes 2 hours before you meet the driver at the reserve gate. Walking safaris offer a good chance of seeing giraffe, zebra, elephant, and good birding.

Day 4: Selous Game Reserve – Zanzibar Island

After breakfast, day at leisure, after hot lunch at the camp you will be transferred to the airstrip for your flight to Zanzibar On arrival, there will be a vehicle waiting to transfer you to Blue Bay Beach Resort, one of the finest resorts on the island. Dinner and overnight at Double Tree Resort by Hilton in Nungwi (B,L,D)

Day 5: Zanzibar Island

There is a wide range of water sport activities on offer at Blue Bay Beach Resort from fishing to windsurfing. The professional dive school offers dives and short courses for all levels of experience and can take you out to some of the most dramatic coral reefs in East Africa. Dinner and overnight at Double Tree Resort by Hilton in Nungwi (B,D)

Day 6: Zanzibar Island

Blue Bay Beach Resort is so beautiful and peaceful it will be hard to drag yourself away, but for those who are able to leave the beach there are several excursions that can be arranged by the hotel to see the sights of Zanzibar, including a Spice Tour and a visit to Jozani Forest with its famous endemic monkeys. Dinner and overnight at Double Tree Resort by Hilton in Nungwi (B,D)

Day 7: Zanzibar Island – Dar es Salaam

After a leisurely breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to DSM (B)
